Creek Comms
Creek Comms is the name of a student advertising agency that is run out of The University of Texas's Moody School of Communications in the Environmental Communications class. The Fall '23 class worked with Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) on furthering the Longhorns Don't Litter (LDL) campaign which aims to increase student awareness of campus's local watershed, Waller Creek and protect it and the surrounding ecosystems from non-point source pollution, such as littering. The Longhorns Don't Litter campaign, which has ultimately become a student organization uses a marketing strategy that focuses 70% on Longhorn pride and 30% on environmental awareness.
Our Accomplishments
As a class, we accomplished a lot in a 14 week semester. Some notable highlights were the establishment of Longhorns Don't Litter as a campus organization, the redesign of Creeky (our mascot), and the creation of the LDL toolkit which will help future classes and the organization continue our work.
My Contributions
Throughout the semester, I worked as the head of PR and oversaw all events, newsletters, partnerships, and communications that involved Longhorns Don't Litter. I led a team of 12 people and helped create the Longhorns Don't Litter Toolkit.
Reflections
I learned a lot during the past 14 weeks and hope to use this experience as a stepping stone into a career surrounding environmental and sustainability marketing.
