6. Public Speaking
Leadership Skill
In high school, I was invited to give a TedxYouth talk in my school district. The speech was memorized and presented to over 75 students.
In my junior year of high school, I participated in the Lexus Eco Challenge. To increase support and awareness for our project, I auditioned for and was accepted into a local TEDxYouth convention with one of my team members. We were one of 12 student presentions accepted. We had about one month to develop our presention, memorize it, and then present it to over 75 people. TEDxYouth conventions are typically small, and this one in particular was held at a middle school. Our presentation was scripted and completely memorized. We discussed about our work in supporting and cleaning local waterways. Additionally, we used our experiences in the Lexus Eco Challenge to inspire others to pursue thier own passions.
Outside of this experience, I have been a part of Theatre and am used to public speaking. Through perfromance, I have had ample practice speaking to a crowd. Additionally, I won 1st place in my regional prose competition, a form of public speaking that is judged. Public speaking is something that comes naturally to me, and I constant work towards improving my cadence and diction everytime.
